🌄 My Journey with IFS 🌄

Since 2014, I have delved into various modalities such as tea ceremony, meditation, psychedelics, shamanism, and breathwork. Subconsciously searching for the underlying issue that troubled me on a deep level, I held a persistent sense that something was wrong with me, yet I couldn't grasp what it was or how to address it. This exploration led me on a journey through different practices. In 2020, during a ceremony, I finally uncovered my childhood traumas within my body, initiating an intense body-oriented healing process. This process brought forth a resurgence of old trauma into my consciousness, accompanied by intense emotions and flashbacks.

Despite 1.5 years of somatic psychotherapy, the approach lacked the welcoming space my inner parts needed. Turning to IFS, I discovered a method where judgment was replaced by compassionate communication with my parts, both from my therapist and myself. This shift significantly propelled my healing process forward.

Over the past four years, with the assistance of IFS, I've experienced a profound transformation, overcoming challenges such as dissociation, relationship struggles, emotional expression, and chronic physical pain. I've immersed myself in IFS through reading, online courses, and practical experience. In 2023, I co-founded Sipsy ry, a non-profit dedicated to promoting IFS in Finland.

🧩 About IFS (Internal Family Systems) 🧩

IFS is an evidence-based therapy model that is safe and effective for addressing a wide range of mental and physical challenges. Please note that this is a concise overview of the IFS model.

IFS recognizes that we are all composed of a system of various sub-personalities or 'parts,' each with its own feelings, thoughts, fears, and actions. While all parts in the IFS model are well-intentioned, their current methods can sometimes be counterproductive and may be rooted in past traumatic experiences.

Beyond these protective parts is the "Self," also referred to as the soul or higher consciousness. When the "Self" is present within the system, it is characterized by its calming, compassionate, and curious nature.

The guide, embodying the Self state, serves as an anchor of stability, guiding clients through their inner terrain and helping them connect more with their own Self, leading to the natural healing of their inner conflicts and trauma burdens.

🧭 Session Structure: What to Expect 🧭

Sessions typically last 1-1.5 hours. We begin by discussing your chosen topic, whether it involves past or present challenges. During this phase, we explore the various parts associated with your topic as they manifest through thoughts, body sensations, emotions, images, and more. I guide you in understanding these parts, approaching protective elements with respect and compassion. Gradually, we transition into a more body-aware and meditative state.

Our goal is to foster understanding and build trust between your parts and your "Self." You’ll gain insights into how these parts concretely impact your daily life. Once sufficient trust is established, we may connect with more vulnerable parts, offering them care, compassion, and connection. The work is guided by your Self and your parts, focusing on what is most beneficial to your system. All emotions and reactions are welcomed during the session.

We conclude by expressing gratitude to all the parts that were present and gradually returning to everyday consciousness.
